aaron-w-spiceworks (Aaron W (Spiceworks)) 1
Recently, we rounded up the top 10 antivirus solutions and business laptops based on product reviews from IT pros on Spiceworks. Based on the success of these two articles, we’ve decided to tackle NAS products and determine the top 10 choices of 2016 based on this year’s product reviews.
But before we get to work, we need IT pros to chip in and leave product reviews for their preferred NAS products. Every IT pro that leaves a review will receive 25 spice-points and, in turn, help give us more accurate data to evaluate and rank this year’s best NAS product.
Here’s what we need from you: Go to the Product Reviews section of the Spiceworks Community, find your favorite NAS product , and leave a review. If your organization uses more than one manufacturer brand, feel free to leave multiple — and honest — reviews. We’ll start pulling data two weeks from now, which gives you two weeks to make your voice heard.
What are you waiting for? Go leave a review now and help us help you.

We’ll be notating older products in the list. As with our past two lists, the results will be based purely on product reviews left on products in the last 12 months.

Im not so sure that will be that accurate, a lot of the better NAS have not refreshed in more than a year.

For personal use, I just built my own with FreeNas. Fits my needs better than any solutions I found.

So are you pulling reviews from the specific NAS model, or from the brand?

It’s a joke, but really, we love Synology NAS devices. High end, excellent ROI NASes. Amazing devices!
I even have a couple of Rackstations at home for my multimedia collection.

Another vote for ioSafe. I’ll certainly leave a review if it’s added.

Just requested to add the WD EX4100. It’s much better than the EX4 which was a POS in comparison.

Why no QNAP in the comments? Have 2 8-bays, 1 4-bay and another 2-bay (with only a single HD). Had gotten support when 1 disk I replaced offline failed to sync (RAID5), the support remoted into my unit and fixed it for me.
Not saying that QNAP is something…I know its far to be desired (based on what I have been reading) but with the 2 problems I have (the failed sync and another failed HD on the other unit which synced without issues) and the support received, it seemed okay. It may not be in the top 10 but should anyone had any guts to recommend it ?
Read great things about Synology though. Proof are the comments above!

More expensive than something like Synology (on average for comparable specs), with arguably a worse interface and less built-in features.

Agree. Disk Station Manager in Synology is the best GUI ever for a NAS

BBigford, yes I do agree that I got lost in its UI, more than once…still do presently . As for the features, can not compare as I do not have something to compare it with. These NAS were already here when I boarded the company and I just have to make use of it. Feature-wise, I’m still looking into how to replicate/synchronize a LUN/iSCSI target. Just read QNAP release models which can, unfortunately, our boxes (several years old) ain’t compatible.
